Q3: My robot is not working properly/goes in circles/ has no functions etc? what should I do?

If your robot is not working properly, you can call the service department and ask for help. When you do this, make sure to specify what robot you have, how old it is (model and serial number) and what type of RC you have.

Q4: Where can I find information on repairing or maintaining my robot?

Please refer to your robot owner's manual for this. If you do not have an owner's manual then you may download one on this website or purchase the manual for $15. If the manual does not answer all of your questions, then you can call the service department.

Use the Shipping a Robot Link for information. Also, don't forget to fill out the Return Form.

Q6: I sent in a robot/part* for repairs. Have you received it yet? Is it repaired yet?

If you would like to know the status of your robot or part repair, you can call service and ask. We will call you after we have finished any repair. Generally it will take about 2-3 weeks from the time we receive the robot to the time that we have completed the repairs and are able to ship it back to you. Sometimes it can be less time, but in busy parts of the season (such as fire prevention month in October) it can take longer for repairs. For the shipping process you should expect about 1 week for the robot to arrive here, and an additional week for shipping from here back to you. If you wish to send a robot back for repair, we recommend that you prepare and send the robot in for repair well in advance (2 months or more). If you send the robot well in advance then we will be able to do a more thorough repair. If you DO however have a robot that needs a rushed repair, please inform someone in service first of your situation; then when you ship the robot here make an obvious note on the packaging with a date that you need the robot returned by. We will try to repair and return the robot by the requested date, but offer no guarantees. It is best to check all functions on your robot well in advance before an upcoming show. *The turnaround rates for part repairs are generally considerably less than that of robot repairs. If you have a part that needs a rushed repair, please inform someone in service first of your situation; then when you ship the part here make an obvious note on the packaging with a date that you need the part returned by.

Q7: How can I send a part back under warranty?

Our standard warranty policy is 6 months. If within the first 6 months after having purchased your robot you have a problem with the robot or a defective part, you can call service and inform us of the situation. Before shipping anything back, be sure to inform someone in service of the situation. When you receive a robot, it is important to immediately begin the operation of your robot. You should become familiar with the robot and components that come with the robot. If you do this then you will know if there is anything not working properly. It is a good idea within the 6 month warranty period to run the robot at least once a month. Most problems that occur with robots happen in the first few months after receiving the robot. If you store the robot for 6 or more months after you receive it and then find out that is has a problem, it will NOT be covered under warranty even if you have only operated it once.

Q8: How can I get a price quote or a part number for a certain part?

Lookup the part on this website. If it is not listed, please contact the service department.

Q9: How can I order some parts for my robot?

To order a part, find out which part you need to order then call service and order the part. You can pay by PO number, credit card number, or we can bill you at a given address. All billing information will be exchanged over the phone. When ordering a part, make sure you know the specifics of what you are ordering. For instance, if you are ordering a battery you should first know what type of battery you are ordering and also what type connector the battery has.

Q10: I just received a Robotronics robot and have some questions on operation.

Feel free to talk to someone in the service department about any question you may have. Other resources that you may find useful are the service portion of the Robotronics web site, or your robot manual. Perhaps the best way to become familiar with your robot is to spend time operating the robot.

Q11: My voice units do not seem to be working correctly or have limited range; what can I do?

Many times the only thing you can do is upgrade or buy new voice equipment. Most likely the problem is relatively small and can be fixed at Robotronics or by yourself.

Q12: What is the best way to clean or paint my robot?

Cleaning your robot can be done by a household cleaner; some hard to clean spots can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. The best way to keep your robot clean is to keep the robot cover on at all times when the robot is not in use. Robotronics does not paint robots. If you wish to have your robot painted, we recommend that you have someone local paint it.

Q13: My robot is getting to be really old? should I send it back for repairs and upgrades or just purchase a new robot?

This depends on the wear and tear and how well the robot has been maintained. If you take good care of your robot, it may never need to be upgraded or repaired. (some robots have lasted up to 20 years!) Most likely though, if your robot is ten years or older you may wish to upgrade certain components such as the RC or voice units. Over the years, functionality in robots have remained about the same, but stability, durability and quality have greatly improved. If you have an old robot that continues to have problems you may wish to consider purchasing a new robot. You can talk to someone in the service department for advice and information on upgrades and purchasing a new robot.

Q14: Should I upgrade anything on my robot?

You can upgrade the RC, voice units and drive motors. You can also get options such as the water squirter, voice modifier or a new lightweight headset.

Q15: I need to purchase a battery; what type of battery should I buy? Can I purchase one locally?

Batteries may be purchased locally, though it may be difficult to find a battery with the correct connector. If you desire to purchase a vehicle battery locally, make sure that it is a sealed lead-acid, AGM, or gel-cel battery. If you get a battery that is not one of these types, you run the risk of having acid spillage.

Q16: How should I take care of my batteries to make them last longer? Batteries can last for many years with the proper care. To enhance the life of your battery make sure that you always charge it to its full charge, and ALWAYS charge the battery before you store it.

Q17: I would like to get a headset that is more lightweight than mine. Is there one available? There sure is. Please lookup the Audio section of our product site. If there is anything else you need for use with your robot, give us a call. If we don't have it we may be able to get it for you.

Q18: I need a certain part for my show tomorrow, what should I do?! Ahhh!! We feel your stress! Don't worry. For most parts we can do overnight shipping. If you need to have us send something out rush make sure that you call in the morning. Call before 1:00PM mountain standard so that we can have the part ready on time. Shipping rush is usually quite expensive; to get an idea of the shipping price visit UPS SHIPPING RATES. It is a good idea to have backup parts like batteries or voice units so that you can avoid this predicament.

Q19: I want to use my robot in a parade. Can I do that?

You can use the robot in parades especially if the roads are in good condition. The smoother the surface, the better. If you use your robot in a parade you should have an extra battery ready to put in because the battery drain is higher with the constant driving.

Q20: I am going to do a program in a very large area. What can I do so that everyone can hear the robot?

You can use a PA system if thats available. You may want to get an extra wireless receiver on the same frequency as your robot. This you would connect to the PA system or a portable speaker amp and project the voice of the robot. If you are using a voice modifier, you would need an extra one of these also. Call us with the frequency of your receiver and we can help you with this.

Q21: Is it okay to do wheelies with the robot?

If you want to do wheelies with your robot be careful. Make sure that the top is latched down securely. When coming out of a wheelie make sure not to push back on the joystick, that will cause the robot to come down too hard and fast.
